No idea is as absurd as the idea of progress, which together with its corollary notion of the superiority of modern civilization, has created its own "positive" alibis by falsifying history, by insinuating harmful myths in people's minds, and by proclaiming itself sovereign at the crossroads of the plebeian ideology from which it originated. In order to understand both the spirit of Tradition and its antithesis, modern civilization, it is necessary to begin with the fundamental doctrine of the two natures. According to this doctrine there is a physical order of things and a metaphysical one; there is a mortal nature and an immortal one; there is the superior realm of "being" and the inferior realm of "becoming." Generally speaking, there is a visible and tangible dimension and, prior to and beyond it, an invisible and intangible dimension that is the support, the source, and the true life of the former.--from chapter one. Premetto che non ho strumenti culturali adeguati per "criticare" un libro di Evola.

La teoria fondamentale di Evola (come anche di Guenon) è che esista una "tradizione primordiale" che è l'unica a garantire le risposte che ancora oggi ci rendono inquieti, e che l'approccio storicistico che vede nel dispiegarsi delle vicende storiche un progresso sia in verità la corruzione di quanto di tradizionale avevamo "guadagnato", ed è una parabola discendente da una Eta dell'Oro (che inizia a vacillare intorno al 400 a.C.) al Kali Yuga.

La buona notizia è che in qualche modo questo fa parte di una normale ciclicità dell'Universo, per cui magari tra mille anni entreremo in una nuova Età dell'Oro.

La notizia cattiva è che per leggere il libro dobbiamo fare uno sforzo di apertura mentale (o spirituale?) e evitare la facile identificazione Evola=Ideologia di Destra.

Per Evola democrazia, parità dei sessi, uguaglianza tra gli uomini sono tutte idee corrotte e decadenti. Al pari del progresso scientifico e tecnologico. Per cui capirete anche voi come una persona "moderna" possa trovare difficile accetarlo... ( )

Ova knjiga je posle Drugog svetskog rata potpuno bezrazložno dospela na indeks poluzabranjenih dela. „Leva inteligencija“ je decenijama organizovala montirane procese čiji je cilj bio da Evolu poveže sa fašizmom i koječim drugim, što i nije naročito iznenađenje ako imamo u vidu da je za umešanost u nacističke poslove optuživan i Niče.

Evola je tipičan predstavnik evropske intelektualne desnice za koju su moderne ideologije, bez obzira na predznak, samo manifestacije opadanja evropske civilizacije i njen sve ubrzaniji sunovrat u varvarstvo. Priča zasnovana na evokaciji drevnih tradicija i negiranju ideologije progresa bila je podjednako nepodnošljiva i u Moskivi i u Vašingtonu. Ali uprkos tamnim tonovima kojima Evola slika procese degeneracije i disolucije, „Pobuna protiv modernog sveta“ nije pesimistički traktat. Saglasno Tradicijama (sa velikim početnim slovom) Mračno doba u kome se svet trenutno nalazi svoju „mračnost“ duguje blizini budućeg preporoda. Može se neko složiti ili ne složiti sa Evolinim stavovima, mnogi od njih i jesu kontroverzni, ali zbivanja u modernom svetu pokazuju da se protiv ovakvog sveta doista vredi pobuniti.
