The 2nd book in Ms. Dawson's Callahan Brother's/Holy Terrors series starts off with a nail biting and rather sexy first chapter. Things just got better from there! I really enjoyed this book. Torie Bradshaw, a tabloid photographer, made for a quick witted and bright heroine. She's strong, open with her feelings, and not about to let Matt Callahan get the best of her. The two are not on friendly terms after the island experience, but now Torie needs his help and she's not leaving Brazos Bend until he hears her out. What followed was a fun contemporary romance, with lots of suspense, mystery, and family drama.

I wasn't sure I liked Matt in the beginning. He was a bit too controlling and I found it hard to get a handle on his true personality. Once he let his guard down (especially with Torie) his lighter side came through. He takes his role as big brother very seriously and because of losses in his past, he's built a wall around his heart. Only close friends and his brothers are allowed inside. At the end of the book, he completely melted my heart. Best. Proposal. Ever.

The Callahan brothers are as close as ever and it was fun to see them work together for the first time. The tension between the boys and their father is still sky high, but I haven't given up on Branch. He has a lot to make up for and I'm holding out hope that the boys will give him a chance. Mark also reveals a shocking secret that could hinder the process. His story is fascinating and I'm very excited to continue the series to learn more.

A good read: interesting story-lines, interesting characters, sometimes requires a stretch in its be'lievability. This is the middle book of a trilogy I've read out-of-order; I think it stands alone pretty well. Will continue reading this trilogy. ( )
