Evoking the tune for the famous "The 12 Days of Christmas" holiday song, Alaska's 12 Days of Summer was a pleasure to read. The illustrations took up much of each page, with small print placed along the bottom or sides about each animal featured- from brown bears, to mosquitoes, to salmon. I do wish the print was bigger. I struggled to read it at times, and I know a child may too just as easily. I learned a lot about each animal and enjoyed trying to find each one in the illustrations as the number of animals grew. This is a great counting book because it exceeds the number ten and continues all the way to twelve, posing an extra challenge to early readers. Both authors are from Alaska, which made this story feel more authentic. At the end of the story, the authors included the tune of the song along with the lyrics, so young readers can sing the song all the way through after reading.
