Scout is a comic from the 1980s, recolored and published in trade paperback format. The title character is an Apache who is hunting down "monsters" who are running a post-apocalyptic America. He's accompanied by a gahn (a spiritual adviser of sorts), which usually takes the form of a chipmunk, along with people he rescues along the way. He goes up against the government forces, of which he had once been a part of, and old friends.

I liked the story well enough, although some of it was just over the top. My favorite character was actually the gahn; he had some funny moments and observations, and people kept thinking that Scout was crazy since he was talking to his "pet chipmunk." Scout was an enigmatic character; although this is "his" comic, the reader doesn't see a lot of his inner workings revealed until the last issue included in this trade, when his past is detailed by a former lover writing in her diary.

The art is done by the author and typical of the 1980s look, so it was what I expected it to be.

The story itself holds up pretty well, considering that it was written over twenty years ago. ( )
