This is part of a series the author wrote before he really got started with mystery stories. This is a simple book with Dusky MacMorgan and his Irish pal, Westy O'Davis. MacMorgan and O'Davis have both worked for the government in the past in secret agent types of positions. MacMorgan lost his wife and child to drug runners trying to kill hm. He is now a fisherman. The author said he wrote what he called "duck and fuck " books and he used to apologize for them but he needed the money.

White's writing matures througout this series, written in the early 1980s under the name of Randy Striker. Here he develops the themes that show up in his later works: morality, seamanship and self-administered justice among them. There are some formulaic plot twists and ridiculous scenes but a love and respect for the natural beauty of Florida permeates this work as well as the other books in the series. (
