I have read very little of GMB's poetry, and only one novel, so it was fascinating for me to get more of a sense of how the man, the landscape and the work were intertwined. I feel, after finishing, that I would like to read more, but also that I maybe wouldn't have liked the man much; there are a couple of "cuttings" of people out of his life, which seems harsh or unexplained, leaving an aftertaste of slight callousness. ( )

I picked this up at the library on a whim without really knowing much about GMB. Now I have his Complete Poems. This was an engrossing read, to the point where I ended up getting weepy at the end which felt strange for an autobiography.... Very highly recommended. ( )
