The captains of two rival polo teams are observed having a heated argument just before the final match of their season. Shortly after the match, the captain of the winning team is found dead in the stables. Cleopatra Fox is lucky enough to have attended the event and to have heard the alarms concerning the discovery of the body, and she happens to note a coral-colored ribbon in the dead man’s pocket - but when the body is removed, that ribbon is gone! As it happens, Harry Armitage is investigating the cousin of the suspected murderer on a different matter, and so it is natural that he and Cleo team up to solve the crime. Their problem is that there may be far too many suspects, and not all of them are telling the truth….This is the seventh book featuring Cleo Fox, a delightfully independent young woman navigating life in London in 1900; she is far too independent for her relatives’ liking, who are trying hard to marry her off, but Cleo is firm in her decision not to marry - unless, perhaps, to Harry? Their relationship proceeds apace in this story, but leaving aside the romance part of the series, the mysteries are always well-clued and quite believable; reading these cozies is like having a wonderful chat to catch up with a dear old friend. Recommended, but begin with the first book in the series (“Murder at the Mayfair Hotel”)! ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML: The sport of kings is the backdrop for a game of murder where one player loses more than the match. Can Cleo solve the case, or will the murderer win? Summer has arrived along with a plethora of social events that keep Cleo and her cousins busy. Between balls, dinners, concerts and picnics, they attend the final match between two proud polo clubs. When the winning team's captain is found murdered in the stables, everyone assumes the opposing team's captain killed him. After all, he was found holding the murder weapon, and everyone knows they hated each other. But Cleo isn't convinced. She sets out to prove his innocence alongside Harry Armitage, who was employed to investigate the accused man's family. With their cases overlapping, it makes sense to work together. The more they get to know the victim, the more they realize the handsome athlete sported a dark side that few people saw. Those who did had a reason to kill him. Which suspect struck the victim with his own polo mallet? His wife, lover, friends or colleagues? Or did the rivalry between two opposing captains spill over to their personal lives, and lead to murder? .Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
