Here William Goldman's beloved story of Buttercup, Westley, and their fellow adventurers finally receives a beautiful illustrated treatment. A tale of true love and high adventure, pirates, princesses, giants, miracles, fencing, and a frightening assortment of wild beasts-The Princess Bride is a modern storytelling classic. As Florin and Guilder teeter on the verge of war, the reluctant Princess Buttercup is devastated by the loss of her true love, kidnapped by a mercenary and his henchman, rescued by a pirate, forced to marry Prince Humperdinck, and rescued once again by the very crew who absconded with her in the first place. In the course of this dazzling adventure, she'll meet Vizzini-the criminal philosopher who'll do anything for a bag of gold, Fezzik-the gentle giant, Inigo-the Spaniard whose steel thirsts for revenge, and Count Rugen-the evil mastermind behind it all. Foiling all their plans and jumping into their stories is Westley, Princess Buttercup's one true love and a very good friend of a very dangerous pirate.… (altro)

Blame Morgenstern all you want, Goldman, but I know it's your fault the book ends this way. How dare you do this to me!

(I loved the book, as much as I loved the movie. Goldman's "interruptions" were highly entertaining. It's been awhile since i read a book with a strong narrator voice that's done well) ( )

3.5, rounded down.

love is many things, none of them logical.

If the movie had not been such a rolicking good time, this book might have made a greater impression. As it is, the movie is a real favorite and one of the rare times that the movie exceeds the book by far. Which isn’t to say the book isn’t a bit of fun--it is. This edition has some marvelous illustrations.

Another one I can check off the list. Made me want to watch the movie again…”Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya; you killed my father; prepare to die.”

This was tough. I enjoyed the book, but at the same time I can see why some people don't. The interludes, while amusing, got old. Some were just way too long, and boring. The "Buttercup's Baby" extra...I could have lived without it.

I did enjoyed the story and the whimsy. It was full of adventure, romance, and humor. I enjoyed the character development and learning more of the backstories of everyone. I think I could read this again minus the interludes. ( )

First time I've said this: the movie is better than the book. The former is relatively free of the author's fatuous asides that do nothing aside from stroking a colossal ego. Don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of diversions and asides--eg Les Mis— but this book was just tedious. ( )

I grew up watching this movie and absolutely love it. I thought it was about time to read it. I am not sure if I am biased towards the movie but I did find myself wishing I was watching the movie instead of reading the book! Loved learning a little more about the characters and the story line. I still liked the book, but LOVE the movie ( )
