"A powerful and needed collection of essays by accomplished women writers on violence and injustice toward Black men. The catalyst for a national conversation, this book shines a new light on the dangers Black men face daily, and the emotional toll anti-Black violence takes on the women who love them, casting a vision for future activism"--… (altro)
This is painful book of essays to read. Its subject is the killing of Black men and boys by police and civilians for behavior that would be seen as normal in White persons. It is painful, but the emotional depth and compelling analysis make it worthwhile. Here are some of the essay titles which are, by themselves, a summary of the pain and fear experienced by so many:
The Trayvon Generation Never Free The More Things Change “I can’t breathe” Breathing While Black “Thingifying” Black People Why They Kill Us
Editor Angela P. Dodson offers the hope that this collection will continue and expand a national conversation about “the killing of African Americans, police brutality, reforms in policing, and systemic racism in the judicial system and in society at large.”
