This book is helpful because it allows readers to get up close and personal with sharks through its attention grabbing photos. It is broken up into chapters such as an introduction to sharks, "Shark Attack!", and the relationships between sharks and humans. One feels like they can become an "expert" on sharks after reading all about them.

“Sharks” by Miranda Smith is one of the most fascinating survey books about the sharks. Stunning photographs and magnificent digital artwork capture the essence of the topic. The images make you feel as if you are a part of the ocean, swimming with those powerful creatures, sharks. You can picture them in different shapes and sizes; learn about their most perfect anatomy that has not change over the millions of years, and understand the nature of their behavior. One of the very interesting things that the young readers might find surprising is the fact that the sharks can be soft and gentle; that the sharks rarely attack people and that they are more fearful of humans than vice versa. The book presents 3 chapters called “Meet the Shark”, “Shark Attack” and “Sharks and People” that uncover different aspects of shark’s life. At the end of each chapter, the author included the summary of the main points described in the chapter as well as “Go Further” extension activities that the more curious readers might want to investigate.
I would most definitely recommend this book to the younger readers, ages 8 and up, for it has excellent content, amazing photographs and simple, yet compelling presentation. ( )
