Third in a series after ‘No Guns for Asmir’ and ‘Asmir in Vienna’. A true story about a family and their survival, then escape from Sarajevo during the war. This novel centres on Muris, the husband/father who has stayed behind in Sarajevo to look after his mother while his wife and children live as refugees in Vienna. Muris lives with his mother after his apartment is bombed. He looses his job and is faced with starvation. There is no power and no wood and survival through winter is extremely hard. His days are reduced to lining up for hours to collect water and bread. Doing this, he takes his life in his hands as snipers randomly kill anyone on the street. With the help of friends, he escapes and is reunited with his family.

Consists of many letters that go between Muris and his family. These have been translated and therefore sometimes lack fluency. ( )
