It would be welcome if this book was updated from 2007 and diversity was both expanded and, for some entries, revised.

It would also be good to take a reader poll to see how many of us would prefer the merging of all the "fields of knowledge"
into one chronological delivery.

Highlights include:

John Smith, Phillis Wheatley, Roger Williams, Noah Webster, The Star-Spangled Banner, Washington Irving,
Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, Battles of Lexington and Concord, Lydia Maria Child, the Zenger Trial, Pierre L'Enfant, Emerson,
...and that's just up to Page 55 !!!

Also, I'd forgotten that Richard Nixon proposed the EPA! ( )

After reading the first one, I immediately purchased this one - being that I'm an American History aficionado. With short entries, interesting facts, and the ribbon bookmark, this is perfect for short moments – like waiting in long grocery story lines or doctor’s offices. I kept mine in my purse for just these sorts of occasions. The only drawback is that it was published in 2007, so by 2015, it’s now 7 years behind. However, it is what it is, and I don’t think publishing an updated on would do any good. I love this series and intend to eventually read them all. ( )

I very much enjoy this Intellectual Devotional series. This is the second I have read. It is designed for a reader to peruse one page per day, similar to an inspirational devotional, but these books contain information about important figures, events, works of art, discoveries, and philosophies in history. This volume focuses on U.S. history. I like the "bite-size" information about each topic. It gives the reader a nice overview of key historical elements. I would like to see even more illustrations, although I think this volume did a little better with that than the first one. Recommended! ( )

As random as Otis Elevator, as cultural as Elvis Presley or Toni Morrison, and as ancient as Roger Williams, this book covers everything! Ideas such as Mercantilism, the Interstate and Separation of Church and State are treated as a daily topic in this book. From Interment Camps to Michael Jackson to Pueblo Civilization to Enron, there is everything in here... probably even the kitchen sink.

Unorganized by category or alphabet, reading an entry a day will truly expand your horizon. Each entry has a main paragraph and background information all followed by enumerated "Additional Facts" for more knowledge. ( )

The 2012 Hahn bathroom reader. It's the new bathroom devotional for 2012. I love this series.
Finally finished today December 31st, 2012. I page a day for a whole year. This American History themed volume was certainly enlightening. It was divided up into these seven categories: Politics & Leadership, War & Peace, Rights & Reform, Business, Building America, Literature, and Arts. One subject for each day of the week. I learned something new or at least reviewed something I was familiar with every day. I usually read the page first thing in the morning. Get's my mind working and putting things into a historical context. If you having a hard time getting motivated to face the day ahead of you, usually reading an entry about something like Uncle Tom's Cabin or the Draft Riots of 1863 will put things into perspective. Reading a page a day also boosts one's confidence in goal attainment. A nice little kick start to your daily to-do list.
I have two picked out for 2013: The Intellectual Devotional for Modern Culture and 2) The Book of Days by Elizabeth and Gerald Donaldson. Can't wait to get started tomorrow. ( )
