Cornwall, Isles of Scilly, cozy-mystery, amateur-sleuth, friendship, island-life, verbal-humor, situational-humor, librarian, poisons, relationship-issues, sea-storm, local-law-enforcement, closed-circle-mystery, investigation, unpleasant-guests***** Welcome to the Isles Of Scilly. Accessible only by water (or helicopter) are an archipelago off the south westernmost coast of Cornwall. This is fourth in a fun series about a librarian/amateur sleuth and the good friends who work together with her (the Scilly Sleuths) to find justice instead of the most convenient answer. The islanders came for the food fair/bake-off and the off-islanders were stuck (some under protest) because of an impressive storm blowing in from the sea. The sergeant's anaphylaxis was no joke, nor was the indifference of the hotel staff. The same goes for the poisoning and the need to go to a home a mile away during the raging storm to get an insulin supply for one of the hotel guests. But there is a lot of humor to be found while sleuthing. I loved this one, too! I requested and received an EARC from Bookouture via NetGalley. Thank you! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

It is time for the Bay View Hotel’s annual bake-off, but when a crippling storm blows in over the Isles of Scilly all boat and air transportation is shut down. Everyone at the hotel is trapped overnight and several ‘poisonings’ occur. A very confusing ‘investigation’ ensues led by Jemima Jago.
I am a fan of Emma Jameson and enjoy her Dr. Benjamin Bones Mystery series and the Lord & Lady Hetheridge Mystery series. But I can’t quite ‘warm up to’ Jemima Jago. I like the location of the series - the Isles of Scilly in Cornwall. Jemima’s on/off job as a librarian could be ‘fleshed out’ and offer interest. Her boating skills are impressive. But all the characters and dialogues and situations are quite unrealistic and downright silly at times. The characters are extremely immature and behave like middle school students. They seem to regress rather than progress throughout life. Not a lot of substance.
Three Stars *** and I feel that is generous. ( )
