A murder, a ghost writer and a powerful, curious woman with too much time on her hands all converge in this Agatha Christy-ish murder mystery where nothing is really as it seems. Full of clever, funny and witty banter this story is sure to please any mystery lover. There are also a lot of references to current cultural events and icons which helps bring the humor meter up even higher. The narrator was excellent and did a great job with all the characters, each was very distinctive. Definitely a fun read. Recommended. Many thanks to Net Galley for the ARC audio version of this enjoyable book. The Busy Body by Kemper Donovan Former Senator and Presidential candidate Dorthoy Gibson is a much talked about (interesting) woman. Set to have a Ghost Writer pen a tell all book, she is thrilled. When Dorothy's neighbor ends up dead, the unlikly pair team up to investigate. A fast paced who-done-it with two strong female leads. Engaging dialog, a list of suspects and plenty of secrets. Masterfully told with an unmaed narrator known only as "Ghost Writer" added an air of mystique to this fanstic mystery. Overall I found The Busy Body very enjoyable. I highly recommend to those who enjoy a great murder/mystery. I look forward to more from Kemper Donovan. A fun, tight little traditional mystery set in the Maine woods, with a Hillary Clinton-like character (Dorothy Gibson) and her ghostwriter as the sleuthing duo. It was convenient to be able to imagine Hillary and build the rest of the character from there, and I have no trouble at all imagining Hillary solving mysteries. The ghostwriter is suitably snarky, and Dorothy conveniently has a hot bodyguard for her to be attracted to. The mystery unfolds in a conference center mostly made of glass, which always adds to the creepy factor ("In a Dark, Dark Wood" by Ruth Ware; "The Glass Hotel" by Emily St. John Mandel). verbal-humor, snarky, writers, wry-humor, murder-investigation, murder, amateur-sleuth, politics, politicians, local-law-enforcement, Maine, cozy-mystery, female-sleuth**** It moves right along without losing the reader. The publisher's blurb is a good hook and does not mislead. The story is entertaining, characters engaging, plot twists intriguing, and circumstances fun. I really liked it. I requested and received an EARC from Kensington Books/A John Scognamiglio Book via NetGalley. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Veep meets Agatha Christie in this intelligent, wildly funny, literary mystery for fans of Richard Osman, Anthony Horowitz, and Nita Prose! "A delight from start to finish. If you like Agatha Christie, you'll love this." - Alex Michaelides, # 1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient The host of the "All About Agatha" podcast injects the spark and fizz of a Golden Age murder mystery into the present-day, as a ghostwriter is chosen to collaborate on a presidential candidate's memoir, only to discover just how much trouble a smart woman with time on her hands can get up to . . . "I tell other people's stories for a living. . . . I nip and tuck their excesses, soften their hard edges, polish whatever an armada of editors and publicists deem unsightly till it sparkles." It's a dream assignment. Former Senator Dorothy Gibson, aka that woman, is the most talked-about person in the country right now, though largely for the wrong reasons. As an independent candidate for President of the United States, Dorothy split the vote and is being blamed for the shocking result. After her very public defeat, she's retreated to her home in rural Maine, inviting her ghostwriter to join her. Her collaborator is impressed by Dorothy's work ethic and steel-trap mind, not to mention the stunning surroundings (and one particularly gorgeous bodyguard). But when a neighbor dies under suspicious circumstances, Dorothy is determined to find the killer in their midst. And when Dorothy Gibson asks if you want to team up for a top secret, possibly dangerous murder investigation, the only answer is: "Of course!" The best ghostwriters are adept at asking questions and spinning stories . . . two talents, it turns out, that also come in handy for sleuths. Dorothy's political career, meanwhile, has made her an expert at recognizing lies and double-dealing. Working together, the two women are soon untangling motives and whittling down suspects, to the exasperation of local police. But this investigation-much like the election-may not unfold the way anyone expects . . . Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

It is a fun and engaging mystery, and I did laugh many times. I did suspect something similar to the reveal, but couldn't quite work it out. Clever, and the start of a new series, which should be fun to read. ( )
