Here's an odd little alphabet book.
Each page has Pooh dressed in an outfit associated with an occupation. The cover is Pooh as beekeeper, and other images have him as doctor, firefighter, and lifeguard. Some of the occupations are more fanciful, like jester, king, magician, and queen.
The text on each page is pretty drab, naming the job, the colors on Pooh's clothes, what he does in that job, and what his friends think of him (though no other Pooh characters appear in the book). By the way, for some reason, the author -- who is using an obvious pseudonym -- has chosen to refer to my favorite bear as "Winnie" throughout instead of the more common "Pooh."
The art was done by a variety of illustrators, all quite good, but they are given no credit in the book aside from their illegible signatures on the artwork. The presence of some non-Roman characters make me think the art was produced somewhere in Asia, perhaps. The lack of provenance for the art and the fact that some of the bears don't look much like Pooh and some uniforms don't look quite like their matching occupation makes me wonder if this is commissioned work or just a collection of images scraped from some corner of the internet. "O is for Olympian," for instance, has Pooh in a baseball uniform with a very pale face, clenched fists, and pinstripe uniform that immediately makes me think of the Baseball Furies from the film The Warriors. Might this be repurposed fan art?
(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:
