"Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster star of Megan Goldin's acclaimed Night Swim returns to search for a popular social media influencer who disappeared after visiting a suspected serial killer. Terence Bailey is about to be released from prison for breaking and entering, though investigators have long suspected him in the murders of six women. As his freedom approaches, Bailey gets a surprise visit from Maddison Logan, a hot, young influencer with a huge social media following. Hours later, Maddison disappears, and police suspect she's been kidnapped-or worse. Is Maddison's disappearance connected to her visit to Bailey? Why was she visiting him in the first place? When they hit a wall in the investigation, the FBI reluctantly asks for Rachel's help in finding the missing influencer. Maddison seems only to exist on social media; she has no family, no friends, and other than in her posts, most people have never seen her. Who is she, really? Using a fake Instagram account, Rachel Krall goes undercover to BuzzCon, a popular influencer conference, where she discovers a world of fierce rivalry that may have turned lethal. When police find the body of a woman with a tattoo of a snake eating its tail, the FBI must consider a chilling possibility: Bailey has an accomplice on the outside and a dangerous obsession with influencers, including Rachel Krell herself. Suddenly a target of a monster hiding in plain sight, Rachel is forced to confront the very real dangers that lurk in the dark corners of the internet"--… (altro)

Megan Goldin’s second book in the Rachel Krall series moves along just as fast as the first book. Rachell Krall is a true crime podcaster who was contacted by a social media influencer who has since turned up missing.

There is a supposed serial killer who is getting out of jail and Rachel and the FBI agents on the case believes he will kill again—this time going for Rachel.

A bit predictable, but still enjoyable with a twist at the end, this was a good mystery/thriller.

Many thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read a copy. I am happy to give my honest review and recommend to other readers ( )

Dark Corners is a fast-paced book with a nice twist at the end; just when you think you know who done it, you are surprised by who didn't do it. That, and the well-written prose are the best parts of the book. Megan Goldin has written a solid thriller about an influencer.

There isn't much for more about the book; nothing really stood out and nothing really bombed, it was just a good read. I have learned this was the second book of the Rachel Krall series but I doubt I will be reading the others in the near future. Just not enough umph for me.

I would give it a 3.5 /5. Because of the " " factor, I have landed on a 4. You won't be disappointed, you just won't be gobsmacked.

Night Swim (Rachel Krall, Book 1) 2020

Although this is book 2, there is adequate information to make this a stand alone read. The first book introduces Rachel Krall, an investigative reporter, who broadcasts a popular podcast called Guilty or Not Guilty, “the podcast that puts you in the jury box”. This is the third season for her podcast and wants it to grab her viewers attention. The Blair rape trial is in the headlines in Neapolis so she packs up and drives there to cover the duration of the trial. She also likes to present a personal aspect of the case by interviewing people and gathering a consensus from the town.

Terence Bailey is about to be released from prison for breaking and entering, as well as being suspected of killing 6 women in Florida. An online influencer, Maddison Logan, trying to boost her followers, visits Bailey in prison before he is released from prison. Questions arise: who is Maddison Logan aside from her social media presence? Why did she choose to visit Bailey, a suspected serial killer? The FBI get involved when no one has heard from the social media influencer and they are unable to identify any family or friends who have ever met her. On a weird twist, Bailey requests to see Rachal Krall, who agrees to see him in hopes of finding out information about the disappearance of Maddison Logan. A dead body of a woman is found and she had the same snake tattoo that Bailey has so a quest to uncover a likely accomplice is initiated. Is this body Maddison Logan or is there another killer on the loose?

Thanks to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me access to this advanced reader copy e-book. The review is my unbiased, honest opinion. All comments are my own. ( )

“Always know what you’re walking into. Dark corners can be danger points.”
4/5 ★
Rachel Krall is a true crime podcaster. She is summoned at the request of the FBI to Florida with very little information as to why. When she gets there, she is informed that her name came up in an investigation and she’s asked whether she knows a prisoner, Terry Bailey, who is scheduled to get out in a few days. She does not know him, nor does she know why her name would be coming up in this investigation. A young influencer, Maddison Logan, had visited Terry and Rachel’s name came up during their conversation. She doesn’t know Maddison either; but later discovers that Maddison had reached out to Rachel requesting she investigate the disappearance of her friend….and then Maddison disappeared.
Rachel and the FBI decide to work together to try to solve this mystery. The FBI gets Rachel into an influencer event, BuzzCon, to see if she can get any information out of the attendees. Rachel can gather information from other attendees that the FBI won’t be able to get. While she’s pursuing leads on her own, and including the FBI, when she can, she discovers that there may be other victims of disappearance. When one of the BuzzCon attendees is murdered, Rachel finds herself as a suspect.
Rachel first appeared in Night Swim, which is written mostly as a podcast. This book is not written as a podcast, although we do get a few chapters done in that style. The author did a very good job describing what could be the life of an influencer – narcissism, cliques, and influencer rivalries. While it was interesting to read all of this, I found it unrelatable as a non-influencer but it was relevant to the story.

i think this was a really great sequel. I thought the case was more intreating to me. I also thought the podcast element made the book a compeling listen. I do think that i don't feel much for rachel as a character, she really does not ahve the much dimension and i don't feel that attached to her or even feel like i know about it. Normally in series, i really loved the main character and that is what keeps me reading, i hope that changs as the books go on! ( )
