I really enjoyed this book, but I have to confess it was a little confusing reading it. it is a picture book very complex. A lady goes to the lake to fish every night. She uses a mouse as her bait and catches nothing...this concerns the moon who goes to visit her on the night of the month when there's no moon to bring her a sandwich. She lets him in and they drink tea and chat all night but the next night she goes again with a mouse as bait and catches nothing.
The next month the moon comes to her house again and he finds out that the reason she does this is so that he will come closer which avoids the water tide to damage her house. He laughs and the moon and the lady become friends and paint her house with moon drops to protect her home.
I found it very interesting how I was surprised when seeing the moon as a man. I never realized before I had stereotyped the moon as something feminine because of the Spanish pronoun for la luna. ( )

This story is about an old woman who fishes at night. The moon sees her and worries about her, so decides to pay her a visit. He notices her house is being flooded by the tide. The woman continues to fish and the moon returns again a month later. He learns the woman is fishing for the moon so the tide will stop ruining her house. The next night when she goes fishing she catches bright paint that keeps the moon away. The tide does not creep into her house any longer.

Catching the Moon is a crafty story about a bond that one woman had with the moon. The higher level vocabulary, is an excellent challenge for readers. It also uses many "stereotypes" or misconceptions about the moon. For example, the fisher woman uses a mouse in attempt to capture the moon (it made out of cheese). The only set back to this story was the difficulty in finding the overall purpose. The author often introduce information about the tide. On the other hand the author has several moments when the moon visits the fisher women. For this reason, this book may be fit for leisure purposes rather than instructional.

A fisherwoman tries to catch the man on the moon to stop high tide from washing away her pier. I love Myla Goldberg but this book is just odd and not very clear. ( )

Very literary for a picture book. Not surprising given Goldberg's past work. Story about the moon, tides, and an unlikely friendship.

The artwork is very nice. Much like the moon it has a surreal luminous quality to it.
