"Sutton going missing is the worst thing to happen to Casey, to their family. She's trying to help find her sister, but Casey is furious. She knows Sutton is manipulative, meanwhile everyone paints a picture of her perfection. People don't look for missing Black girls--or half-Black girls--without believing there is an angel to be saved. When Sutton reappears, Casey knows she should be relieved. Except Sutton isn't the same. She remembers nothing about while she was gone--or anything from her old life, including how she made Casey miserable. There's something unsettling about the way she wants to spend time with Casey and watch her goldfish swim for hours. What happened to Sutton? The more Casey starts uncovering her sister's secrets, the more questions she has. Did she really know her sister? Why is no one talking about the other girls who have gone missing in their area? And what will it take to uncover the truth?"… (altro)

Just couldn't read this. Two points of view, neither of interest. It will appeal to some readers though as the story of two sisters each of whom sees herself as the good guy. ( )

Lily Meade's debut novel, "The Shadow Sister," masterfully combines contemporary mystery with pressing themes like privilege, missing black women, and generational legacies. It's a thrilling whodunit that also delves into the daily challenges faced by women of color.
The story revolves around sisters Casey and Sutton, with a touch of magical realism adding a unique twist. Meade's talent shines in her complex characters, especially the protagonist's captivating journey of self-discovery.
Meade's writing style is enthralling, evoking a wide range of emotions and painting vivid scenes. "The Shadow Sister" is an exceptional debut, with exquisite prose, well-crafted characters, and a compelling plot. It's a must-read for those seeking heartfelt, emotionally resonant stories. ( )

First books seldom get any better than this one. Lily takes two sisters who seem completely and constantly at odds, then gives us snippets of each one's perspective of the other. When the older one vanishes, only to reappear naked and amnesiac three nights later, it's the beginning of an elaborately crafted story, one that involves missing Black girls, the younger sister having to wrestle with her belief that the older one, now returned, is faking her memory loss, and then a very surprising revelation wrapped around some great tension-filled events at the end. Add in bits of family history on their Black father's side, a loyal friend of the younger sister who vanishes, a minister who is at best sketchy, plus the older sister's devastated white boyfriend, and you have a read-in-one-sitting story. I certainly hope the author has more books to write. ( )
