Who does the bride blame when anything goes wrong with her wedding plans? Everyone else, that’s who. This bride’s friend, who is also a wedding planner, is taking charge of the wedding. But the bride refuses to do the necessary things requested of her, like pay the down payment for the shower venue. This leads to some accusations about whose fault it is, and it better get fixed, pronto. And this is how Carly becomes the caterer for a shower that is being held in a private home. And, oh yes, do create a new and delicious appetizer to serve at it. Of course, Carly can pull it off. What she can’t do is bring the dead groom back to life. The naturally upset bride now looks to Carly to figure out who killed her future husband, before the police come looking for her. It’s hard to say which part of this novel is more interesting: the murder mystery or the bridezilla story. It’s a well written tale, both intriguing and entertaining, and the third in the series, which just keeps getting better with each installment. ( ) Though I have not read the first two books I am completely in love with the theme and the characters. In fact, I would say it is fate. The book sounded fun and I started it right away then my mom showed up saying she had just made homemade donuts. Hmmm...I asked her if she had heard of using them as grilled cheese sandwiches. Of course, she had not. Then a friend stopped in to tell me about her lunch date...AT A GRILLED CHEESE RESTAURANT! Are you hearing this? Meant to be and should be for anyone that loves a great grilled cheese. Although I didn't realize that this was the third in a cozy mystery series, that did not detract from the story in any way. I did not feel like I was missing the backstory between Carly and any of the other characters. In this novel, Carly runs into some schoolmates who come into her grilled cheese eatery, and she ends up doing a favor by catering the bridal shower for one of them. At the bridal shower, the groom-to-be ends up dead at the bottom of the stairs, and no one has any idea of who the culprit is. Restauranteur Carly is on the case though! Against the advice of the Chief of Police, her boyfriend, and all of her friends, Carly keeps gathering clues as to who the killer is, and the killer is a little too close for comfort. This was an easy read, with likeable characters. Carly isn't a needy, weak female protagonist like some cozy mysteries seem to have. She's a take-charge, get things done kind of woman, and you can only root for her to figure the case out before something more sinister happens. Her boyfriend, Ari, seems to be a stable, supportive partner, which is nice in a male character. All of Carly's friends are caring on so many levels, and everyone is happy to pitch in and help wherever they can. My only "complaint" (in the loosest of terms) is that with this being an ARC, there are some typographical and grammar errors, which should hopefully be fixed before the final draft goes to print. Other than that tiny issue, this was a great read. I tried putting the clues together as Carly got the pieces, and was still surprised at the end. All in all, a great cozy mystery with likeable characters, a well organized plot, a surprising killer, and bonus recipes at the end. If you enjoyed the Hannah Swensen books, then you will definitely like the Grilled Cheese Mysteries! I did not see that reveal coming until the moment. Linda Reilly did a great job of making the hints and clues very subtle as it all made perfect sense once the killer was revealed. This was book #3 in the Grilled Cheese Mystery series and I will have to add the first two books Up to No Gouda (book #1) and No Parm No Foul (Book #2) to my TBR. I absolutely love the titles, can't wait to see what book #4 is named. Mia Gaskin did a great job of narrating this novel. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Winter in Balsam Dell is a snowy affair, and to add in some cheer after the holidays, Carly's former classmate Klarissa Taddeo is hosting her extravagant bridal shower at the historic Balsam Dell inn. That is, she was until a double-booking throws some mold in the cheese and leaves Klarissa scrambling. With the venue moved to the maid of honor's family mansion and Carly rinding to create a new delicious treat, it seems the group is going to pull off the shower without a hitch-until a rowdy band of groomsmen crashes the event. Klarissa is furious with her groom-to-be, and when a loud argument ensues, everyone is shocked by what they hear. When the groom is later found dead at the bottom of the stairs, his drink spiked with a hefty dose of poison, Carly must put her nose to the rind and save Klarissa from being suspect #1. Because you know what they say-it's always the (almost) wife. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
