This caper involving missing jewels and romance was a chunk of fun. Mira Patel's family have a thin veneer of respectability, underneath are gifted grifters who are determined to make an easy buck. Mira is mostly escaped but things keep getting complicated with her family. Now she is dealing with her aunt's death and her latest romantic failure. She's afraid the matchmaker will stop trying to match her. Then the lawyer who is dealing with her aunt's estate is her first match Naveen Desai, with whom she ends up on the run from determined crime bosses with. Hijinks and romance ensue and I couldn't put it down. Partners in Crime I Picked Up This Book Because: The #BookspinBingo spinner said it was time to do so. Media Type: Audiobook Source: BC Public Library Dates Read: 6/19/23 - 6/27/23 Stars: 3.5 Narrator(s): Soneela Nankani and Shahjehan Khan The Characters: Mira Chaudhary: Naveen Desai: Emme, Sunil Uncle, Naveen’s Mother and Grandfather The Story: This was a romp through Vegas with some scary criminals, crazy situations of other people's making, and a hero and heroine who learn to let go of old hurts and trust each other. I enjoyed it a lot. These characters each have their struggles and they both stand up for themselves and take accountability to not let issues hold them back. This adventure happens over two days (maybe 3) and OMG who knew so much could happen so quickly. Also, Cobra Bubbles. The Random Thoughts: Thank you NetGalley for this book. I received no compensation for this review. This was fun! I liked seeing how Rai approached this subgenre after her more straightforward contemporary romances. There was more emphasis on the trauma that comes from difficult family relationships than I expected for a romance and almost felt like it coasted pretty closely to the women's fiction genre, but there was focus on both of the protagonists, and a focus on their relationship too. I hoped for more resolution with Mira's family members, but also see why tying everything up with a neat bow might not have worked well. It was a really fun book and I can't wait to see what Rai does next. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML: Indian Matchmaking meets Date Night in this fun, romantic adventure by Alisha Rai â?? "One of the very brightest romance writers working right now." (Entertainment Weekly) Mira Patel's got a solid accounting career, good friends, and a whole lot of distance between her and her dysfunctional family. All that's missing is a stable romantic relationship. Armed with a spreadsheet and professional help, she sets out to find her partner in only legal activities, but much to her matchmaker's dismay, no one is quite right. Including Naveen Desai, the very first match she unceremoniously rejected. Lately Naveen's been too focused on keeping his sick grandfather's law firm afloat to think about love, and he's stunned when Mira walks back into his life to settle her aunt's affairs. He's determined to keep things professional...though it's impossible not to be intrigued by all of the secrets piling up around Mira. If getting back together with an ex is a bad idea, getting kidnapped with one is even worse. Suddenly, Naveen and Mira find themselves in a mad dash through Las Vegas to escape jewel thieves, evade crime bosses, and follow the clues to untangle the mess her family left behind. As her past comes back to haunt her, Mira despairs of ever finding someone who might understand her...but maybe, over the course of one wild night, she'll find that he's right by her side. Alisha Rai quickly became one of my auto-read authors. Whatever they put out, I’ll read it.
This book was fun. It didn’t go how I expected it to. The entire book felt like a trip. There was so much happening and it was well executed. There was a big aspect of romance, however it wasn’t the only element at play. I think one of the strongest themes was on family. There was a little bit of mystery as well, which kind of threw me off at first but after reading a little more, i got into it.
The plot was great and so out there, I loved it. The timings not so realistic Because almost everything happens in like 3 days (except the epilogue). There’s a plot twist somewhere that’s just so funny and unexpected. One thing about Alisha Rai, she will have characters with the most random facts and characteristics about them which adds to their build. I love most of the characters she writes. They’re rarely ever boring.
This isn’t my best Alisha Rai book but, I enjoyed it! Would recommend. ( )
