This volume was incredible. That said, I don't think it stands on its own. This series is deeply tied to, dependant on, and integral to the deeper continuity of Destiny of X and the current phase of the Krakoan era. And because of that, it would be difficult as an entry point or even a standalone book.

But within that continuity, it's incredibly well written, gives depth to the people on the Quiet Council and their motivations and intentions. It sets up and deftly conveys new conflicts and partnerships.

The only thing I'm sad about is not knowing that Issue 4 is a mild Hellfire Gala tie-in and Issues 5-6 are AXE: Judgment Day tie-ins with some pretty severe spoilers for that event because of it. But they were tangential enough that we just got hints and suggestions of how things go in AXE making me more excited to read it when the TPBs come out in a couple months. ( )
