an oversized 1975 book that records and commemorates a great (for its time!) series on WNET in new york about these, um, men who made the movies. yeah, i'm bummed it focuses only on men and yeah, i could quibble with some of the choices .. but the series captures many of these hollywood legends while they were still alive. some of the film of the interview with vincente minnelli [still shots included in this book] will be familiar to anyone who has seen almost any documentary about MGM, about hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s, and certainly almost any documentary about garland. a nice record of the television series.
