Author/illustrator Ryan T. Higgins' trademark sense of humor is very much evident in Ballet Bruce, as our long-suffering ursine hero does his best to satisfy his goslings, despite his disinclination to go to such trouble. The repetitive nature of the tale, with Bruce's many errands, lends itself to the early reader purpose of building reading skills, while the accompanying illustrations capture the droll humor. Recommended to Mother Bruce fans who are learning to read. ( )

Super cute new installment of the Mother Bruce series! The geese have decided to take up ballet, causing Bruce to make sure they have all of the necessary items. I love how grumpy but caring Bruce is to the geese.

Bruce enters the world of easy readers. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. It has a lot of the humor a reader expects from Bruce. The geese what to dance, but they need supplies and keep sending Bruce to town to get them. But by the time all supplies are had, the geese want to do something different. The illustrations are exactly what you expect. In fact I really want a “head in hand” Bruce sticker for my notebook. However, I expect more from a Bruce book. This was not, just not the usual up to snuff. ( )
