British physicist Padilla offers a lively and enjoyable volume on 3 tightly related subjects. The several mostly-math delvings focus on unimaginably large integers (such as Graham's number and Tree(3)), extremely small real numbers, symmetry, and the Cantorian infinities. The mostly-physics ones include relativity, entropy, quantum theory, and theory of particles such as the Higgs boson. And some of the mostly-cosmology ones address black holes, the anthropic and holographic principles, and dark energy. His non-dismissal of multiverse theories and optimism for string theory will not endear him to physics blogger Peter Woit. More like 3.5 - 3.75 stars. An interesting read exploring physics, mathematics, and the history of their development. At times it was a little meandering and difficult to follow and the metaphors were hit or miss. Still, you could tell it was written with a real passion and the subject was something I was glad to learn more about. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
