You HAVE to have read the first 2 books 2. Add the Dragon series too Sadly, while I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this series, this fell very short for me. It was just mega chaotic and the main characters were very much side characters unlike the MCs in the first 2 books. In fact, this read more as a continuation of the Dragon books than the Scarred Earth saga books. We even got far less Keely time! It bummed me out. I still enjoyed some of the banter, but overall I think a lot of things got lost. I TRULY can't wait till Beatrix is dead, dead, dead. No, you really don't need to have read the two previous books in The Scarred Earth Saga or even the Dragon Kin series of which this is a spin-off but some comments and interactions between characters will mean more if you do. It's like being in on an inside joke. I highly recommend this book! I've read it twice already first without a refresher of the first two books, then as part of a reread of the previous books. So very enjoyable! Yes, Ainsley Farmerson, sister of the Queen (the good one), gets her guy and has some sexy times with him. There are the fighting, blood, guts, strong women who know themselves and revel in it, laughter, and comedy that we've all come to know and love with this author. I suggest that you also try to read: at the very least, [book:Dragon Actually|3295695][bookcover:Dragon Actually|3295695] by G.A. Aiken or [book:What a Dragon Should Know|6288940] [bookcover:What a Dragon Should Know|6288940] to learn a bit about Annwyl the Bloody because she is a secondary main character in this book and perhaps for some of those to come!. Also, for those with Kindle Unlimited, the first Dragon book is free! Edited to add: these dragon books have a lot more sexy times and are quite graphic about them! This book started a tad slow but really picked up quite soon and kept me at the edge of my chair for the rest of the book. I adored it, and for me, that is really a lot to admit.
