When I finished, If I Were You, I wished Lynn Austin would write another novel to continue Eve and Audrey’s story. I got my wish! I had my very own “Wish Book” present with this beautiful novella. This brought back many memories of pouring over the Sears Wish Book catalog each year. I can just visualize Bobby and Harry flipping through the pages and wanting each and every toy. Eve and Audrey knew they were going to have a tough time this Christmas in taming the Wish Book beast that had been unleashed in their boys. This was a precious story and the ending was perfect. God gave us Jesus because He loved us, not because we deserved Him, or we worked for Him. Just because His love is so amazing. I loved how the author pulled the story all together describing what Christmas is really all about. Thank you, Lynn Austin, for an early Christmas gift! I greatly enjoyed getting to know Audrey and Eve in If I Were You, so I was excited to read more about these ladies and their sons in this Christmas novella. This book is a heartwarming tale with wonderful central themes of generosity and Christ-likeness during the holiday season. A perfect novella to read with a cup of cocoa near a fire, I found myself smiling several times at the boys and their antics. The novella is easy to read and enjoy. I do recommend reading If I Were You first to get complete background information on the characters, but this novella is the perfect addition to that story. Highly recommended! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"From the bestselling author of If I Were You comes a nostalgic and endearing holiday story that reminds us that sometimes, the most meaningful gifts are the ones we least expect and don't deserve. Best friends Audrey Barrett and Eve Dawson are looking forward to celebrating Christmas in postwar America, thrilled at the prospect of starting new traditions with their five-year-old sons. But when the Sears Christmas Wish Book arrives and the boys start obsessing over every toy in it, Audrey and Eve realize they must first teach them the true significance of the holiday. They begin by helping Bobby and Harry plan gifts of encouragement and service for those in their community, starting by walking an elderly neighbor's yellow lab-since a dog topped the boys' wish list for Santa. In the charming tale that follows, Audrey and Eve are surprised to find their own hearts healing from the tragedies of war and opening to the possibility of forgiveness and new love"-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
