Sassyjd32 | Dec 22, 2023 |   I think Ireland is a beautiful place and it’s one place I’d love to visit. This book took me there for a brief moment in history and I enjoyed my stay. The story was well developed and flowed very well. I loved the characters and was drawn into the story from the beginning and was sad to see the last page. I recommend you read the Author’s Notes at the end and there’s even a Glossary of Terms…but I’ve learned that their language is not spelled the way it’s pronounced. Well, I suppose I was surprised by how little there was about the art of jewelry making and smithing. I was hoping for more of that based on the description. Annabeth and Stephen were...well, honestly I found them uninteresting. He was burned by love once and has sworn off the emotion. She is the lady who isn't like other ladies (and I was never clear on why) who just wants to help where she can. Nothing was remarkable or even overly memorable about then, except for how difficult it was for them to communicate with each other! I did get the sense that the author does have a love for Ireland. I just wish there had been more than just glimpses of the culture. That might have redeemed the book some in my eyes. Overall, there is nothing offensive about this Christian historical romance.  This was a sweet story and I really enjoyed it! I quickly became invested in the story and finished it in an evening. I really liked the characters in this story! Anna and Stephen were both great main characters. Anna was such a kind, compassionate MC and I admired her for her love for her family, especially for her little sister. As an older sister myself, I could see where she was coming from. I really enjoyed watching Stephen’s character growth throughout the book, watching him learn to love again and put the past behind him. I especially liked Stephen’s father, Seamus. He was the sweetest and I just wanted to give him a hug!❤️ The love story was so sweet! I loved watching these two grow from guarded with each other to opening their hearts to one another. This book was rich in history and the setting! I haven’t read many books with the Irish setting so I absolutely loved that! It was interesting to learn what Ireland was like in the 1920s when the Irish and the English had such tension between them. I also found the jewelry shop a neat setting. The story of the Claddaugh ring was also really interesting! Though the faith in this book is subtle and I would’ve liked to see it a bit more, it was beautifully woven in! In conclusion, I really enjoyed this sweet story! It was my first Jennifer Deibel book and I’m excited to see what she releases in the future. If you enjoy books set in Ireland that are rich in history and have a sweet, clean love story, I think you’ll enjoy this one! Thank you to the publisher for a copy in exchange for a review!
