"The elegant Miss Phryne Fisher returns in this scintillating collection, featuring four new stories The Honourable Phryne Fisher-she of the Lulu bob, cupid's bow lips, diamante garters, and pearl-handled pistol-is the 1920s' most elegant and irrepressible sleuth. Miss Phryne Fisher is up to her stunning green eyes in intriguing crime in each of these entertaining, fun, and compulsively readable stories. Whether sniffing out the whereabouts of a priceless pilfered book, an heirloom locket, or a missing eight-year-old girl, Miss Fisher proves herself more than equal to the task-and always fashionably attired. The Lady With the Gun Asks the Questions -Kerry Greenwood
3 stars

Most of these stories were reissued from an earlier edition. I’d read them years ago, but I’d forgotten most of the solutions, so I had the pleasure of puzzling out the mysteries again. There were very few surprises, but I enjoyed the visit with familiar characters. There’s a fun addition of a glossary of terms at the end of this book; 1920’s vocab and Aussie slang. I was still left with a question about a ‘jazz colored’ wall. That one sent me to google to solve my own small mystery. ( )

An entertaining series of stories that round out the character of Phyne Fisher nicely. ( )

Short stories - Phryne novels are much better ( )

What could be better than a new Phryne Fisher novel? How about several Phryne stories all in one book? The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions gives us seventeen short stories that have Phryne solving mysteries almost in an instant, but still fairly and with clues enough for readers.

If you don’t know Phryne Fisher, this could be a good primer, introducing you to her in small bites. The first story “Hotel Splendide” is fabulously clever. I was baffled, but she was not. Another story has a murder at a fancy-dress party, a plot device that has happened too often, but there were no costume mixups and people masquerading as someone else, so the story was fresh and the motive complex.

I love Phryne Fisher. I love the books. I love the TV show. I love the movie. I love the new TV show. I love the short stories. I love The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions. If you like clever mysteries that rely on a keen understanding of human behavior and a nose for clues, you will like this collection of short stories.

I received an e-galley of The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions from the publisher through NetGalley.
