Alexa Owl is starting over; being newly divorced she returns home to Pittsburgh to start a new business. She is in her apartment when angel; detective Bobby Starr appears and tells Alexa that she has been selected by Saint Peter to assist Bobby in solving the cold case murder of his second wife from his past. Along the way, Alexa meets a cast of captivating, vivacious characters, while helping Bobby crack the case. This was my first time reading anything by McDonald besides being an unusual cozy mystery; I really did enjoy traveling back in time with Alexa and Bobby. I would like to thank the author for the review copy in exchange for my honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK @iReadBookTours I have grown to love C.J. McDonald’s books, and I am excited to review an audio copy of The audio book. Alexa and Detective Bobby Star (well that is his ghost) are trying to solve Bobby’s wife’s murder. There is a bit of time travel from current time to back in the 1950’s, to solve the murder. The 1950’s was intriguing for me because that’s the era I was born, and I enjoyed the information in the book that refered to that time. This entire story will entertain you for a while. The characters are fun and enjoyable and they play their parts well throughout the story. And throughout ending makes you hungry for more from author C.J. McDonald. I really enjoyed the audio version of Back to the Burgh and Beyond. The narrator, Maren Swenson Waxenberg does amazingly well reading this book. Her pleasant voice and the punctuations throughout the book made the story more interesting to listen to. I look forward to listening to more books by Ms. Waxenberg. If you haven’t tried audiobooks, I think this one would be a great one to start with. And you will enjoy a really good cozy mystery wile listening. A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this audiobook. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. Alexa sure found her knack for solving murder cases. She and Bobby worked well in how they assessed each case. Although, props do need to go to Winnie as well. She really was a great help Alexa on putting all the pieces together.
The other books I read but this is the first one where I listened to the audio version. The narrator, Maren Swenson Waxenberg did such a great job of voicing all the characters, even Bobby's voice. I enjoyed the audio version that I may even go back and listen to books two and three on audio as well. Sadly, Maren did pass away. ( )
