NATIONAL BESTSELLER

"A finely paced, shrewdly observed, multi-tiered story . . . A thinking (and feeling) reader's thriller." â??Wall Street Journal

"Chilling, thought-provoking, and hauntingly written, Mother May I kept me on the edge of my seat with its breathless race against time." â?? Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author of The Girl from Widow Hills

Recommended by Buzzfeed â?¢ Parade â?¢ Country Living â?¢ Atlanta Journal-Constitution â?¢ Augusta Chronicle â?¢ The Nerd Daily â?¢ She Reads â?¢ BookBub â?¢ and more!

The New York Times bestselling author of the critically acclaimed Never Have I Ever returns with an even more addictive novel of domestic suspense in which a mother must decide how far she is willing to go to protect her child and the life she lovesâ??an unforgettable tale of power, privilege, lies, revenge, and the choices we make, ones that transform our lives in unforeseen ways.

Revenge doesn't wait for permission.

Growing up poor in rural Georgia, Bree Cabbat was warned that the world was a dark and scary place. Bree rejected that fearful outlook, and life has proved her right. Having married into a family with wealth, power, and connections, Bree now has all a woman could ever dream of.

Until the day she awakens and sees someone peering into her bedroom windowâ??an old gray-haired woman dressed all in black who vanishes as quickly as she appears. It must be a play of the early morning light or the remnant of a waking dream, Bree tells herself, shaking off the bad feeling that overcomes her.

Later that day though, she spies the old woman again, in the parking lot of her daughters' private school . . . just minutes before Bree's infant son, asleep in his car seat only a few feet away, vanishes. It happened so quicklyâ??Bree looked away only for a second. There is a note left in his place, warning her that she is being watched; if she wants her baby back, she must not call the police or deviate in any way from the instructions that will follow.

The mysterious woman makes contact, and Bree learns she, too, is a mother. Why would another mother do this? What does she want? And why has she targeted Bree? Of course Bree will pay anything, do anything. It's her child.

To get her baby back, Bree must complete one smallâ??but criticalâ??task. It seems harmless enough, but her action comes with a devastating price.

Bree will do whatever it takes to protect her familyâ??… (altro)

Bree is in her thirties and has the perfect life: A rich and caring husband, three beautiful kids, a large house, a great social life involving charities. But everything changes in one second when she attends the rehearsal of a play starring one of her daughters and looks away from her baby son's car seat - when she looks back, the car seat is gone. But instead of money, the person who abducted the baby wants her to do something which seems to be connected to her husband's firm.

Which sounds like a straightforward action thriller becomes so much more: A breath-taking page turner that I couldn't put down, but also a novel raising questions about guilt, responsibility, class, money and motherhood. There are gothic vibes, too, the twists are surprising, and I loved the characters.
The only reason I am not giving it four stars is that I wished for a different ending - it all resolves a little to neatly in the end considering the dark topics and atmosphere, and I think that Trey was let off the hook too easily by simply being killed. I would have liked for the conversation between him and Bree to continue. ( )

I expected this book to be somewhat light hearted at the beginning, but that quickly changed. It became a novel of suspense that kept me reading. An incident 30 years previously affects the lives of 3 families as one seeks revenge. My only complaint is that I didn't care for the ending at all. As I've noted before, it's almost as if the author came to her allotted number of pages and had to end the story. ( )

This attempt at a domestic suspense/thriller falls short. The opening is promising but the narrative devolves into repetitive rumination and contains surprisingly little action or tension. The author also tries to weave in a love story that comes off as juvenile and not fitting to the characters or the situation, as well as a number of social issues. Nothing works well in this novel. Bree pretty much has the perfect life - married to a rich lawyer who loves her dearly, mother to three happy and healthy children - until she turns her away from her baby boy's car seat for just one second and the next, he's gone. To get him back she'll have to follow the kidnapper's instructions carefully, and those instructions just may land her in prison. Enter Marshall, Bree's best friend's widow, who happens to be a former cop and would do just about anything for Bree. Together they work frantically to track down the culprit and a way to get Bree's son back. But the answers for why this is all happening may not be welcome news, and Bree may find out things about her husband she doesn't want to know.

Wooof, this one was a seat-edger for certain. I think some of the relationships between characters could have been made a bit more complex and interesting, but overall the story and the pacing was good, with some nice twists and reveals along the way. ( )

This involves the story of Bree Cabbott, a woman who grew up poor, but then married a successful lawyer. They have 3 kids. Life is perfect, until her infant son is taken from her! In its place is a note from the kidnapper giving her strict instructions on how to get her baby back.
Will Bree complete the task and will the kidnapper give her baby back?

For me I have such high expectations with this book after reading Never Have I Ever, however, it fell short for me. The beginning and end was thrilling, but the middle was a bit prolonged for me. Definitely recommend it though!

Thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for the gifted copy! ( )

Author’s way of storytelling is so good, I suggest you join NovelStar’s writing competition, you might be their next big star.
