I enjoyed reading this book for its language, organization/structure, and its illustrations. Jack Prelutsky did a fantastic job of using more difficult language in a children's book. For example, Prelutsky used "galoshes" instead of something more widely known such as "snow boot." Prelutsky also used interesting structure in his language throughout this book. This can be seen by sentences like "Stuck in the snow, dad's pickup truck." In continuation, this book had a marvelous display of organization and structure. This can be seen by poem titles throughout the book. The titles of the poems matched the poem and were helpful in setting an idea about the poem before it was read. Prelutsky also used an interesting structure when the snowman was talking about how he was shrinking because of the warm weather. As the snowman was speaking the words and paragraphs were getting smaller and smaller. In continuation, I loved the illustrations by Jeanne Titherington in this book. The images were subtle, did not take away from the poems, and aided understanding. The illustrations matched the poems very well. For example, when the pickup truck was stuck in the snow there was an illustration of the pickup truck under the pile of snow and someone digging out the truck with the shovel. Overall, the big idea of this book was about being youthful, the changing of seasons, and a young boys perspective. ( )

Nothing super special, but a few graceful style points and enough liveliness & vocabulary to satisfy Early Readers looking for something to aid the transition to chapter books. ( )

I enjoyed reading this collection of poems about winter for two reasons. First, I liked the writing style of this author as he used a lot of rhyming in each poem. It made the writing very engaging as well as well paced and flowing. I also enjoyed the illustrations in this picture book. The illustrator was able to enhance the poems by using warm and vibrant colors to portray the fun of winter and snow. The main idea of this book is to explore rhyme and poetry at a young age. ( )

33 months - most of the poems in this collection are great, perfect for kids, very descriptive and visual. The type of thing that turns kids on rather than off to poetry. ( )

I absolutely loved this collection of poems. Not only did I feel very nostalgic when reading this book since I grew up in Snowy Colorado and could relate to all of the poems from a young child's perspective, but I was also so entranced by the detail in the illustrations. The poems were sweet and this is definitely a book I would pull out to read to my students on a snowy day.
