Even my teenagers wanted to sit down and listen to this graphic novel. Full of fascinating facts about crows, and just plain hilarious. Found at the Carle. Blurb from Ben Clanton (Narwhal & Jelly). Arlo the crow is a bit braggy...but he has a lot to brag about! Crows are clever, and Arlo shows his new friend, a little yellow bird called Pips, all his skills and tricks, while Pips teaches Arlo a few things too. They visit the city and the beach, observe humans' tendency to make noise and litter, and Arlo tricks some other birds to keep food for himself. Red stars work like asterisks to indicate crow facts in footnote panels at the bottom of some pages (e.g. crows can count up to six objects...). Arlo, a crow, declares himself the best kind of bird and defends his position with reasons like intelligence, mimicry, etc. to a small yellow bird named Pips. But despite his bragging, Arlo finds a friend in Pips and the two have small adventures together. This was a fantastic short read. It is a hybrid between a graphic novel and an early reader, and I'm glad to see more and more books in this vein. The two birds and their adventures are funny, but the book is also chockful of real facts about crows so children will also learn some science from reading this title. It's clear that more books on the way featuring these two lovable characters and I for one am excited to read them as they publish. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

"Like most crows, Arlo has a big brain. But Arlo has something else: a little pal who's not afraid to tell him when he's being insufferable! In the first of three episodes, a battle of the brains and bird-to-bird banter soon turns into an unexpected friendship. Arlo and Pips' adventures include a visit the big city and the beach on their hunt for shiny things and French fries. Cool crow facts are included throughout the book." -- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
