Isabella's Bringing Back the Wolves is a middle-grade nonfiction book about the importance of conservation. It is the tale of an unintended effects of the early American government offering bounties on predator species. This resulted in wolves disappearing from what is now Yellowstone National Park. It covers the chain reaction caused by the absence of this important keystone species, and the project that reintroduced wolves back into the park. My cubs and I read this together and enjoyed it. It is very informative, without being too complicated for younger readers. The artwork is quite lovely as well. Highly recommended for any child interested in nature and animals! ***Many thanks to the Netgalley & Kids Can Press for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

"In 1995, the gray wolf was reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park after a seventy-year absence. All these years later, we can clearly see the cascading effects this has had on the park's ecosystem. This is a spectacular example of a trophic cascade, the term used when an important member of an ecosystem goes missing and many other living things are indirectly affected, causing a chain reaction of events. In the case of the reintroduced wolves of Yellowstone, the chain reaction went as far as changing the behavior of waterways and the surrounding geology. This book is a fascinating exploration of the transformations that have taken place in Yellowstone National Park since the wolves returned -- including the monumental changes to the landscape and to all the animals that live there -- clearly told through lively narrative and food web infographics."-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

Interesting subject matter and pretty pictures help offset occasionally dry and dull text.
Wolves are awesome! Beavers are awesome! Ravens are manipulative jerks. ( )
