But when a fringe member of the Dark Fae contacts the Kings with an urgent warning, Cain is torn for the first time. How can he trust this beautiful creature when resisting his primal attraction to her is battle enough? Noreen is horrified by what her kind and the malevolent Others are planning for the Dragon Kings. Dark Fae or not, there are lines she will not cross--even if it means risking her life. But she never imagined that she would risk her heart until she meets Cain. She wants him with a soul-deep desire that frightens her...and endangers them both. ‘Flame’, the next installment of Donna Grant’s Dark King series, was a overall pretty decent read minus the whole instant love *eyeroll* situation happening. I won’t go too much into the romance aspect of Noreem and Cain relationship but dayum. It was quick and was the only real turn off of this novel. I enjoyed how the author always somehow someway features the previous characters in her most recent releases and how each of them contribute to the storyline which I probably should start reading from the get-go but that’s a story for another day.

OMG...where do I start? I know...at the beginning, smart asses.

Any how we start out with Noreen contacting the DK's through an email letting them know she has information they need about the Others and Moreann. Of course they aren't just going to take everything as truth but they can't exactly take the chance that maybe she knows something.

Cain is sent to investigate and bring back whatever information she has....if there is any.

It's love at first sight...as happens when a King meets his mate. Trouble is Noreen is a powerful Dark Fae who is also part of the others. She has been guided and raised by Moreann. So just why the change of heart to help the Kings?

Now for you long timers get ready you are going to get hit with A LOT of information and some of it will not be good.

Ubitch's body disappeared at the end of the last book and we all celebrated.... Ding Dong the witch is....WTH?!?! yea, put away the champagne for now!

Henry is on the trail of Melisse. I think there is a romance brewing there. She's the freaking weapon everyone has been looking for! Like Henry, I never thought the weapon would be a person. And just how the hell can she bring about the destruction of the Kings???

I won't even get into Moreann and just how far her planning has gone on! It makes sense but at the same time it's hard to grasp that from the very beginning when mortals we find out Moreann sent the "mortals" first appeared that plans to destroy the Kings were in place.

Balladyn, our dear sweet King of the Dark.....he became what we all hoped he would! Eirith let's him go to Rhi at one of her lowest points. Luckily he could reach her and pull her back. Oh and we get to see just how powerful she really is....healing a realm????

What I will say is the twist in Noreen's story is crushing and hard to believe. To see another King betrayed and the anguish Cain goes through. Noreen's plan all along....or was it? Almost too convenient when we get the "whole story" from Noreen.

Oh and have a HUGE box of Kleenex for the end! Even if you can't stand him (there some out there who are not fans of his) Con is going to rip your heart to pieces. ( )

Readers of Fantasy and Paranormal Romance will love this book. Flame continues the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. I was hooked from the first chapter. Noreen, a Dark Fae, is intriguing and her claim to have information to share with the Kings about the Others is suspicious. More intriguing is her reaction to Cain, the Dragon King who is tasked with investigating her. This story is full of beloved characters, hints and revelations, and a love story full of passion and tested by deception. A great read.

Flame by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #17

Cain, a dragon king, is sent to find out if the email sent to warn them is valid or a tricky trap. So, off he goes, meets the sender, sets a debrief in motion and that debrief ends up rather steamy from time to time. The information Dark Fae Noreen has is from her time with the Others, a group that has a plot in play, a plot that will endanger the dragons. Will her information help? Is she a spy? Does she have information that will help?

The book has steamy romance, dragon kings, druids, fae, good and evil, an intricate plot, plenty of characters to track, side stories and threads that it would be helpful to have read previous books to understand all that takes place. The ending settles who the mate of Dragon King Cain will be but doesn’t necessarily provide a HEA for all of the dragons…yet.

I have not read the entire series of this made up world that the dragon kings belong to but have read enough to know that I really do want the various groups to find a solution that will make the earth a safe and happy place for all. I would love to find out if the dragons that were sent away are still alive and where they are and if they will ever return. I would love to see the fae realm come together and unite. I would love to find out what happens in the end. Not sure when that will be but hope it will be soon.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Paperbacks for the ARC – This is my honest review.
