I've read this author before and I think I also read other books in this series prior to reading this one. I like Bradley's stories, but they always take a while for me to get into them. (Somewhere around chapter 38 for this book before it became an "I don't want to put this down" read.)

Bradley does a good job at having several characters that would have motive for Danvers's and/or Marlar's murders. I did make some correct guesses on who the guilty party or parties would be. ( )

Patricia Bradley is an author whose stories I have enjoyed for years and hope you will read her books if you haven’t already. In the beginning of the novel, we are introduced to the main characters, Luke Feredy and Brooke Danvers. Luke and Brooke had been sweethearts in the past but today they’re different people and haven’t seen each other in years.
Brooke is working towards becoming a park ranger like her father, John. However, on the eve of her being sworn in her father is killed. What makes the pain of loss even harder is the way the ME ruled his death. What Brooke doesn’t know is that Luke has been in contact with her father while working undercover. Before long Brooke wants to be involved in investigating what happened to her father but someone is out to remove Brooke before that occurs.
Brooke is being pursued by a leading politician and successful businessman, Jeremy Steel. Yet, for Brooke, the chemistry isn’t there, but she is open to giving it time to see if her heart changes towards him. Luke’s past is slowly revealed in the story because there is more to him than working to uncover who is selling drugs in his hometown. Luke is in town to see his grandmother, Daisy, who knows him better than anyone else. Daisy also knows and cares for Brooke, so she is a wonderful support to Brooke as she deals with life and her questions about Luke.
The novel started out slow for me, but I found it worth reading as the suspense slowly builds. Daisy is one of my favorite characters as she loves a good hamburger and has good insight into situations and hearts. Brooke and Luke experience a lot of drama in the story and from that, springs a budding romance. What does their future look like? One has to read the novel to find out. I plan on reading the next novel in the series titled Obsession, where Emma Winters becomes the central figure, and we get to enjoy her story.

This book is one that you don't want to stop reading! A story of murder, suspense, a great plot, and best of all of love and forgiveness. Looking forward to the sequel! ( )
