I picked up this book to round out my library with some younger reading, and because I like dogs and I'm picky about them.

The reading is quite simple, with only a few words per sentence and they are large and clear on the page. The drawings are detailed enough to take up the page but not crowded enough to make things hard to see. Biscuit himself resembles a yellow Labrador or perhaps a Golden Retriever, and looks reasonably like a real dog which I much prefer over the stylized, cartoonish animals often around these days. His behavior is also a fair approximation of an actual puppy, while his little girl owner talks to him on their activities.

I would consider this book to be largely gender neutral as far as kids books. The colour palette doesn't lean one way or the other and the kids dress like kids in normal, everyday clothes. There seem to be more girls than boys though, and that might make a difference for some children who care about it. I mostly care about the dog. ;) ( )

This book is about a dog who wants to do multiple things before he goes to sleep, it is very relateable for children.

Getting ready for bed is no simple task for Biscuit. He has all kinds of things he wants before he'll go to sleep which will be a familiar story for many children reading this book. Once Biscuit finally gets to curl up with his owner, he's a happy puppy and everyone gets to sleep. ( )

I feel like this book is a staple in every child's life! The stories about this little puppy are cute and easy to read. A great follow-up activity would be to have students write a story about their own pet that they have at home. I would recommend this book to all kindergarteners. ( )
