This was one of my favorites books that I read for this reading log. One of the things that really liked about this book was that the illustrations in the book were of actual photographs that portrayed the celebration being discussed. I also like how the author used a simple sentence to introduce the celebration being discussed over the next four pages, such as when the author writes, “When we celebrate we decorate ourselves.” This simple sentence introduced the celebrations that incorporate the use of body art. I also like that each new section started with “when we celebrate . . .” I thought that helped to further the idea and main message that although there may be differences among cultures there are many similarities that also relate us to one another.
