From the #1 bestselling author of The Secret Wife comes a story of love, passion, and tragedy as the lives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas are intertwined-and they become the ultimate rivals, in love with the same man. The President's Wife; a Glamorous Superstar; the rivalry that shook the world... Jackie Kennedy was beautiful, sophisticated, and contemplating leaving her ambitious young senator husband. Life in the public eye with an overly ambitious-and unfaithful-man who could hardly be coaxed to return from a vacation after the birth of a stillborn child was breaking her spirit. So when she's offered a holiday on the luxurious yacht owned by billionaire Ari Onassis, she says yes...to a meeting that will ultimately change her life. Maria Callas is at the height of her operatic career and widely considered to be the finest soprano in the world. And then she's introduced to Aristotle Onassis, the world's richest man and her fellow Greek. Stuck in a childless, sexless marriage, and with pressures on all sides from opera house managers and a hostile press, she finds her life being turned upside down by this hyper-intelligent and impeccably charming man... Little by little, Maria's and Jackie's lives begin to overlap, and they come closer and closer until everything they know about the world changes on a dime.… (altro)

Wow. Generally, books written about Jackie Kennedy are just that - written about her life as a Kennedy. I enjoyed reading something different, about her time after JFK. From one cheating husband to the next, fame, power, and money seemed to be a fuel for her.

Gill Paul does a fabulous job in this historical fiction novel, allowing the reader to take a behind the scenes look at not only a famous First Lady's life after the white house, but that of Maria and the world's richest man.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this and give my honest opinion.

I normally do NOT read historical fiction. This book is engaging with short chapters told from alternating POVs. The only thing I struggled with as a reader was the timeline, which wasn't always chronological because of the shifting POVs. Overall, a much recommended read! ( )

Maria Callas and Jackie Kennedy were the two important women in Aristotle Onassis’ life. With Maria, he had passion and her total devotion, but with Jackie he had the high born class that his peasant soul craved. Jackie looked to him as security in a dangerous world, but quickly tired of his crude habits In the end, they made each other miserable. He should have remained with Maria who truly loved him. ( )

I couldn't stop reading. The book goes back and forth with connection between Jackie Kennedy and opera star, Maria Callas. After JFK dies, the question is: who gets the prize: Aristole Onassis? Is it love, money or perhaps just winning. I wonder how their lives would change now with the internet when gossip flies at a high speed. It also gives the reader a glimpse of the life of Jackie's sister, Lee Radziwill, who seemed to be on edge all the time. While they all have passed, I hope they're now enjoying the afterlife together. What a party that would be. At the end, the author reinforces that the book is fiction. I appreciated the last few pages that gives you a list of other books to read and notes: "What Happened Next." ( )

Jackie and Maria is a "story of love, passion, and tragedy as the lives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas are intertwined—and they become the ultimate rivals, in love with the same man."
This was a fascinating book about the lives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas and written using the same timeline for both women. I found that very interesting and kept me wanting to read on and on to find out what was happening in each of their lives at that point.
I knew a great deal about the life of Jackie but very little of Maria and found her to be a very complex woman whose love of Aristotle Onassis dominated every decision she made.
I think anyone that enjoys a well written novel with detailed research and fascinating subjects will enjoy this book. ( )
