While 1980s "rebel" cricket tours of South Africa were a passport to the game's commanding heights for some English participants, West Indian stars such as Alvin Kallicharran, Colin Croft and Lawrence Rowe faced long bans, widespread anger and ostracism. Gray deplores the tours but understands and sympathises with men offered a life-changing financial opportunity, and he has spent years seeking out any who were willing and able to speak for themselves. Some are unrepentant, others regretful, some of their stories are truly tragic, but all are compelling. Premi e riconoscimenti
In the early 80s, 20 West Indian cricketers were paid more than $100,000 each to take part in rebel tours of apartheid South Africa. When they returned home to the Caribbean they were banned for life and shunned by their countrymen. Some turned to drugs, some to God, while others found themselves begging on the streets. This is their untold story. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

Much is made by the Rebels of their opposition to apartheid and how they toured to fight apartheid rather than the money. I’m not sure their arguments hold water but then that is between them and their conscience. ( )
