As He Saw It, by Elliott Roosevelt (read 31 Dec 1946) I received this book as a Christmas present from my sister Colette and promptly read it. But I made no note in regard to what I thought of it. ( ) Reviewed June 2006 Son Elliott remembers and recounts his father’s war time meetings with Stalin, Churchill, Eisenhower and more. Being the son of the president and also in the vicinity of most of these events. Elliott was invited to attend, sometimes acting as an aid to his father. Many of these accounts were over my head, as Elliott speaks of events and people as if the reader would be very familiar with them, and I’m not. Possibly at the time of this writing 1946 the events and people were familiar. Not to me, I learned what a “land-lease” was as the phrase kept coming up. I was really exited to think about how leaders go about managing a war. And more importaintly how to manage the peace that follows. Roosevelt put a lot of time and effort into the peace time. He was clearly interested in ending the colonial aspirations of France and England who (according to Pres. Rooseevelt) only wanted to exploit their colonies for their weath and ignore the needs and welfare of there peoples. Author Elliott is clear in his conclusion that the lack of peace and failure to fulfil promises made to and between countries was because of the death of the President. If he had lived he would have brought on a lasting peace, healther conutries and a stronger United Nations. 11-2006 nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
