Scott Reintgen! You are a fantastic Author! I adored this story so very much! What an incredible premise and so wonderfully executed! From the dog-ears and Marks to the Editors, every part of this world felt thrilling and magical but also plausible. I loved the narrator popping in here and there with side notes. Just as with NYXIA, every character felt superbly thought out--it truly is only fitting that Reintgen would write about the importance of side characters when he is the king of crafting them to have their own worlds and back stories. This was reminiscent Cornelia Funke days in the best way. I had such a blast in this world and I think the middle grade audience is going to adore it as much as I did. ( )

Love it! An adorable and adventurous middle grades novel with some fun characters and wonderful world-building. I enjoyed the other "characters" from different well-known works sprinkled throughout this book. What a great start to a series. I'm already looking for the sequel. Strongly recommended. Saving Fable a middle grade debut for former public school teacher Scott Reintgen. Indira is determined to become a protagonist in a story and is ecstatic when chosen to leave Origin and study at Protagonist Preparatory in Fable. Her dream is to be in a story so she can bring her brother David with her. When things plummet quickly downhill she is labeled a side character and starts classes such as Love by Page 12 with Mr. Darcy and How to Get Captured and Narrowly Escape with Alice. Indira realizes things are not as they should be and she must save Fable along with her new friends Phoenix and Maxi. Author Scott Reintgen brought the story to life through well developed characters and stunning descriptions of the settings and action. I was there with Indira, experiencing all of her emotions and rooting for her. My emotions bounced all over from happiness and pride to sadness and anger and everything in between. But to be honest I did not want the story to ever end (thank goodness this is the first in a series). The vocabulary complements the story and offers so many layers catering to readers who love stories and books. It’s not just a classic tale of good vs. evil but offers so much more and should be in every home, school and public library. ( )

Indira Story has been chosen to potentially a character be in a novel. All her life, she has believed that she will be the hero, but after arriving at Protagonist Preparatory and failing her auditions, she is scheduled to be a side character. Mishap after mishap, Indira begins to realize that something terrible is happening to Fable. On her journey to save her friends and family, she will need to prove whether she is fit to be a hero or destined to remain a side character.

Saving Fable is definitely unique and interesting. The world that Reintgen creates is incredible; it’s like I can just reach out and grab a white mocha for myself! The town of Fable was a concept that I really liked in that it changes its “look” every so often. One day it can be set in the wild west and the next day there will be castles and knights.

My favorite thing was the message of looking on the bright-side and never giving up. Especially being a middle grade, I think it was really important to have the underlying lesson be about remaining true to yourself and trusting your instincts. ( )
