This is a great beginning science book for children interested in science and nature. It begins with a bean sprout that grows and at the same time the reader is introduced to a caterpillar hatching. A butterfly is searching for a leaf to lay its eggs. After a few days of rain the bean seed has grown in to a big bean plant. The author asks the children how the egg got on the leaf. The story is a great read aloud and questions can be asked about what the children see on each page. The illustrations are colorful and it would be a great book for a beginning science unit for children. The bean seed and caterpillar grow throughout the year and they come full circle at the end of the book. I would recommend this for any collection. The concept of print awareness is demonstrated with the words, root, leaves, an egg, a caterpillar and so on in bold letters. There is also an index in the back to help beginning researchers. "What's that wedged in a crack in the ground, small and hard and wrinkly and brown? A bean seed! Soon it develops roots and leaves. And what's that on the leaf? An egg! The egg hatches a caterpillar, and the caterpillar eats the leaves, getting bigger and bigger until it forms a chrysalis. Meanwhile, the plant is growing, too: it develops flowers, then bean pods, as it reaches up toward the sun. Side by side, plant and insect grow . . . and grow . . . and grow throughout the year, until they come full circle"--Publishers website. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
