Isaac's mother, Shiloh has a tenuous relationship with her father, especially since she took up the minister of a fundamentalist church. Shiloh soon moves in with the minister, Steven. Isaac has diabetes and Shiloh and Steven think they can cure him not by using medication, but by praying over him. Lovely writing, set in small-town America. Featuring grandparents Lyle and Peg who seem a lot more elderly than their years, and their beloved young grandson Isaac. Increasing stress with Isaac's mother as their principles clash; I could feel for their dilemma. There are several subplots, and one or two scenes that don't really add much to the story at all other than in painting a broader picture of Lyle's day-to-day existence. They contrast with the drama of his interactions with his daughter. I found it difficult to put down once I'd started, but was disappointed that the ending was so inconclusive, leaving several threads wide open. Their adult daughter, Shiloh, and her son Isaac live with them. Shiloh becomes involved with a new charismatic church in nearby La Crosse and becomes engaged to its minister. This minister and Shiloh believe that Isaac has the gift of healing. This new relationship causes Lyle's relationship with Shiloh to become strained as he doubts the minister's intentions. The novel ends with Isaac in a diabetic coma because his parents chose to pray over him rather than seek medical attention. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

But when the church's radical belief system threatens Isaac's safety, Lyle is forced to make a decision from which the family may not recover. Set over the course of one year and beautifully evoking the change of seasons, Little Faith is a powerful and deeply affecting intergenerational novel about family and community, the ways in which belief is both formed and shaken, and the lengths we go to protect our own Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
