In the biographical story, The Story of Geronimo, it tells of the life and adventures of the legendary Apache warrior named Geronimo. The book chronicles his life from birth, all of his reservation escapes, many of his battles and where he spent his last days. The book says that Geronimo died and was buried at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, but how he always longed to return to Arizona where he was born.

I have always been fascinated with stories about Indian warriors, in particular Geronimo and Sitting Bull. I also found it interesting in this book that Geronimo basically had two families. His first family was killed in Mexico and then later in life he had another family. From this second family, I have meet and now know his granddaughter that lives in Altus, OK.

I think this book would be best used in a History unit that covers the Indian Wars we had here in America. Geronimo is a well known Indian warrior whose name can still strike fear into people’s hearts. I think another application of this book would be to have students create a timeline of Geronimo’s life and compare it to other major events that were occurring in America during the same time period.
