"Meet The Adults. Claire and Matt are no longer together but decide what's best for their daughter Scarlett is to have a "normal" family Christmas. They can't agree on whose idea it was to go to the Happy Forest Holiday park , or who said they should bring their new partners. But someone did--and it's too late to pull the plug. Claire brings her new boyfriend Patrick (never Pat), a seemingly sensible, eligible from a distance, Iron-Man-in-Waiting. Seven Days of Us di Francesca Hornak (BookshelfMonstrosity)
BookshelfMonstrosity: Forced proximity exposes long-held secrets and resentments in these funny novels where families gather during the Christmas holiday. Each offers relatable characters and engaging writing; The Adults has an element of suspense which Seven Days of Us lacks.… (altro)

A divorced couple with a seven year old daughter decide to go on holiday as a family over Christmas, bringing their current partners along. What could go wrong?

This one grabbed me right away - the premise has a lot of promise and Hulse mostly delivers on it. We see things from multiple perspectives - all the good intentions, the grinning-and-bearing it, the tension and animosity. The writing is sharp and the characterizations strong. I especially appreciated how there were no absolute good or bad guys and my sympathy kept shifting around based on the evolving character development. ( )

A divorced couple, along with their daughter, and new partners, agree to go on holiday together. Of course, arguments and jealousy come forth. Scarlett, the couple's daughter, has an imaginary rabbit, Posey, that gives her advice. When someone is shot with an arrow on the archery range, everything comes to a head.
Lots of shouting, arguments, and dysfunction.
Just OK. ( )

This book was good but I think the problem was it didn’t know whether to be funny or not.
There is some dark humor and some dry British humor but based on the story it should have been either very funny or a tragic comedy. It really comes off as neither.
Lastly I really disliked the chapters narrated by the imaginary friend Posey and supplemented by scarlet,
Also there were some large inconsistencies about the abilities of a 7/8 year old. ( )

The Camp Brochure is the most appealing and fun part of this book.

The characters are NOT, as billed on the cover, remotely as enjoyable as in "Love Actually."

Predictable plot wavers around an imaginary boring rabbit and drunken relapse,
as Alex ingnores all obvious and intuitive warnings. ( )

Definitely an interesting take on “adulting” and merged family dynamics...with a few good laughs along the way. ( )
