Alabama Spitfire: The Story of Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Bethany Hegedus, illustrated by Erin McGuire. The book tells the story of Harper Lee as a young girl. I very much liked this book because To Kill a Mockingbird was one of my favorite books growing up. I think that this book would be a good precursor for students who will have to read To Kill a Mockingbird in the future. ( ) I chose this book because I loved reading the book to kill a mockingbird. In her book, she gave insight to her life living during discrimination, but it was mainly about her fathers case with a black criminal who was wrongly accused of rape. She never did focus on herself, but this biography did. I never knew she was such a secluded person who did not like the light of the fame. I also did not know she revised her book for 3 years to make the complete novel. I knew of her friend Tru, but I did not know he was a famous writer also. I enjoyed reading this biography; I learned many things from it. While reading to kill a mocking bird, you don't think of the author you think more of the characters this book makes you think of her. She followed her dream of being an author instead of being a lawyer like her father. Bethany Hegedus tells the story of Harper Lee, formerly known has Nelle, the author of "To Kill a Mockingbird". She tells of her upbringing in the racist, segregate south and how she always fought for injustice around her, just as her father had. Nelle and her best friend Tru loved to write with one another. Tru went on to become Truman Capote, and after trying to convince herself to do something else, Nelle finally became the writer she was always destined to be: Harper Lee. Drawing her inspirations from the world around her. Most people know of To Kill a Mockingbird, but I did not know anything about Harper Lee (Nelle).I think it is very cool that even though she was so famous she didn't do interviews or care about the celebrity side of it. Her book tells a powerful story and she didn't need to do interviews to explain it. I truly enjoyed Alabama Spitfire: The Story of Harper Lee and To Kill A Mockingbird by Bethany Hegedus. This picture book biography contained important information but in language that was easier to comprehend for younger readers. I had not known much about Harper Lee because her lack of interviews, and I felt that this biography helped me to have a better understanding of her and why she chose to write To Kill A Mockingbird. I really enjoyed the illustrations, and I think that this biography would be a great resource to younger students that had an interest in biographies-particularly with female leads. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

The inspiring true story of Nelle Harper Lee, the girl who grew up to write To Kill a Mockingbird. Growing up in Monroeville, Alabama she wore overalls, went to the courtroom to watch her daddy try cases, and with her best friend Tru read books and wrote stories of their own. When she moved to New York City she wrote a novel that made her one of the most beloved writers in the twentieth century. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
