Greta loves her job as assistant librarian. She loves her best friend, Will, the high school civics teacher and debate coach. She even loves her mother despite her obvious disappointment that Greta is still single. Then she meets Mac in the poetry section of the library, and she is smitten. Mac is heart-stoppingly gorgeous and showers her with affection-poetic text messages, and free hot chocolate at the local cafe where he works. The only problem is that he seems to be a different person in his texts than in his face-to-face conversation. When the Franklin Library is threatened with closure, Greta leaps into action. She arranges for a "battle of the bands" book jam, hosts a book signing by a famous author, and finally, stages a protest that raises more than a few eyebrows. Through it all, she slowly realizes that it is Will, not Mac, who she turns to for support and encouragement. Mac has the looks; Will has the heart. How can she choose between them? Check Me Out is a contemporary romance-with just a hint of Cyrano de Bergerac-that reminds us that it is what's on the inside that matters most.… (altro)

Snobby abled librarian is shocked to learn that disabled people want access to libraries too. Also is compelled to remind the ready that her bff is fat, everytime she thinks of him; like she wants brownie points for it. ( )

Girl meets the perfect literary boy, or does she? That’s the just of the romance of this book. The best part of this story it the spot on references to library life. Working at a library is a challenge, I know many scoff at that thought, really what is so hard about putting books on a shelf. So this is the perfect book for those who have that thought. Libraries are a cornerstone for the public. They contain history, facts and lots of books. They also contain odd patrons, strange situations and funding issues. This story is about keeping a historic building which happens to be the library, open. Funding issues are causing a riff with the community as to whether it is even important to have a
library, who needs it anymore. This is an actual occurrence with real libraries this is where the story hits home. Libraries have progressed over the years to keep in line with community wants and needs. Yes, they still have books but also free internet service, computers, maker spaces, eBooks and community spaces. In short this book “Check Me Out” is about keeping the library open and yes it has a love story wrapped around the pages too.

Greta is your typical romantic heroine - too blind to see what is in front of her eyes, too easily fooled by her own romantic notions. It's a nice re-telling of Cyrano de Bergerac and fortunately Greta grows a little backbone and quits being so "nice". ( )

Read this as a NetGalley ARC.

I could not finish this book. I had a lot of problems with the main character Greta.

Greta is a librarian, trying to save her local library from being closed. Her best friend Will, who is secretly in love with her, is helping her in her endeavor.
Will, has sent his hot cousin to go on a few dates with Greta - Cyrano de Bergerac style; Greta might notice that looks aren't everything and that she is secretly in love with Will, too.

So far so good. What made the book unfinishable for me was Greta's constantly telling the reader that Will is overweight. Over and over. On the one hand Greta is protective about him, on the other hand she tells us that he is too big to sit at her dinner table. I could just not reconsile the two things with each other. ( )
