Book Summary:

The book starts with an introduction on three men who are going on a voyage from Florida to France. Their names are JP, Ben, and Rudy. They set sail on JP's boat, called the Sean Seamour II. The first two days of their journey went fine, states Rudy after the accident: "The days of sailing with JP and Ben before the storm were great!" After those days fly by,though, conditions get a little rough. The sailors make it to the gulf stream when a huge storm hits that wasn't scheduled to come for another few days. After a day of fighting through the monstrous 50-foot waves, the Sean Seamour II capsizes. JP breaks his ribs in the process but has time to swim under the boat and set free the life raft, so the three of them can have somewhere to escape to. Rudy grabs a device used to alert people that they need help, and they are on their way riding the now 80-foot waves trying to survive. Then, rescuers are alerted. The rescue swimmer, Drew, saves all three of the survivors with barely enough time to spare. Lastly to end the story, the helicopter that saves Rudy, Ben, and JP flies them to a hospital for treatment, and they all survive.

Opinion:

At first I thought this book was going to be really boring, since I usually don't like to read nonfiction. The only reason I grabbed it in the first place was because the cover looked REALLY cool. After reading it, though, I found that it was actually one of the best books I've ever read. The author gives many details to help understand what was going on the whole time, and for each character he introduced he gave a backstory about their lives. In the book, about half way, were pictures of Rudy and JP after the accident. That was the reason I gave the book four stars, because it completely SPOILED the ending! From then I knew that they survived, and i was only on page 100. But overall, if you are into survival stories and suspense I highly recommend this book, because it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, wondering how the sailors are planning to survive.
