Wes Anderson is now seen as one of America's greatest and most stylistic filmmakers. With movies likeThe Fantastic Mr. Fox,The Grand Budapest Hotel,Moonrise Kingdom, andThe Darjeeling Limited, Anderson has solidified his place among the best and brightest of contemporary filmmakers. Anderson's early films, the films that rocketed him to stardom, are often written about separately and in contrast to his later films, inFucking Innocent, John Andrew Frederick, who has taught Anderson's early work at the University of Southern California, examines his three earliest films and discusses each individually and as the burgeoning of the art of one of most talented of American directors. Frederick's criticism looks atBottle Rocket,Rushmore, andThe Royal Tennenbaums in this fun and sharp critique. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

I read the other two sections of this book: Rushmore & The Royal Tenenbaums. The author's exploration focuses less on strict elements of style and more on character analysis and plot-driven development (with a healthy look at callbacks and cultural references). To be confessional (as I often am in my reviews) I was a little bit taken aback by the harsh critiques of Max, but that's just because I always identify with him? Regardless, I think I have more of an optimistic view of Max as a person who can be extremely successful even if he's a weirdo who doesn't do his schoolwork. The Royal Tenenbaums section inspired me to take a look at Salinger again through Franny & Zooey, so expect a review of that one soon! ( )
