"Ducks Away!" bears a lot of similarities to "Duck Skates," another picture book that I have reviewed. Even down to the five ducks and dealing with math in a subtle way. Yet I like this one a lot better.

It is not because of the story. And it isn't due to the illustrations. AND both books had rhyming. Instead, this book dealt a lot with opposites (down/up, forward/backward.) It also has words like "tumbled, peaked, toppled". You could use those words and act out the book as an extension activity. (No I didn't do that in storytime; the idea just came to me now!) ( )

This would be fun for storytime -- counting, rhyming, ducks! Simple math. ( )

reflection: This was a sweet book. It was a very easy read and had a simple story that would be good for students when they are just starting to read. It emphasizes on numbers and counting!
